I. Objective
1. Students of this program should have a solid foundation of the basic theory and research methods of law, finance, law & finance, and be eligible to do research and practical work independently.
2. Students of this program should have the ability of thinking independently and creatively, combining theory and practice, gaining creative scientific research achievements in this field.

III. Lengthy of Study
The lengthy of study for doctoral candidates is 3 years. Students who get all course credits but fail to finish degree thesis within 3 years may apply for an extension for their study period. In general, the overall lengthy of study should not exceed 6 years. Those who has gotten all course credit, meet publication requirements and finish degree thesis may apply for oral defense and graduation in advance, based on the approval of their supervisor and faculty.

This program requires 26 course credits. (Refer to APPENDIX for detailed courses and credits)
V. Academic Training and Research Requirements
Dissertation proposal defense will be held during the first semester of Grade Two. After that, students could enter the writing process. Comprehensive test will be given by tutorial group for evaluating theses. From the second semester of Grade two, comprehensive research seminar will be held once per semester, when students are required to submit the finished part of their thesis. Seminar will consist of tutorial groups or 3-5 experts, during which students will introduce theses first, then the experts will evaluate them.
Doctoral students should take an active part in all kinds of academic activities in this field, and should make at least three academic reports in academic activities inside and outside of school. They should have the ability of independent law and finance research, and each doctoral student should publish at least three professional articles in academic journals at home or abroad.
VI. Thesis Requirement
Dissertation proposal defense will start at the end of the third semester. Please refer to Basic Requirements for Doctoral Candidates for details. Pre-defense is required before formal thesis defense. Principly, the first time to participate in the pre-defense should be no later than the end of the 5th academic year.Only by passing pre-defense could the students join the formal one.
Only by completing the whole course credits and passing the thesis defense within the prescribed time can the students apply for the master's degree.
VII. Other Requirements
1. Both collective tutorial systems and individual tutorial systems will be combined and adopted for the cultivation of doctoral candidates. According to academic requirements, usually this subject or related experts are qualified to be the member of collective tutorial group. Each tutor at least has one teaching assistant, who will be involved in thesis guidance. According to the specific circumstances, the tutors can also apply for no assistants.
2. Doctoral candidates will prepare their research plans during the first semester. They will choose their tutors in the second semester, with the guidance of tutors or tutorial groups, combining study direction and personal characteristics, then making personal cultivation plans. According to the requirements and progress of courses study, scientific research, comprehensive examination, dissertation proposal, etc., detailed regulations should be made for personal cultivation plans, and should be strictly followed. If there’s some reason that the plan has to be modified during implementing, get approval from tutor and Law School first, then forward it to Graduate School for further approval and filling.
3. The forms of doctoral courses are various: teaching, self-learning, classroom discussion, special reports, etc. Among them, the main teaching method is combing teaching and discussions, giving a full play to creativity of students, paying attention not only to basic theory and specialized knowledge, but the skills and methods of scientific research as well.
4. Collective tutorials and Individual tutorials are adopted for both common courses and compulsory courses. The teaching method of collective tutorials combines teaching and seminars, giving full play to advantages of tutors, showing the leading edge of the latest achievements and development trend. Individual tutorials are established by each doctoral tutor, which could be carried on by either asking questions or studying on topics, or could be given according to a certain scientific research topic.
Doctoral candidates will be informed of the syllabus, references, forms of classes and assessment methods of compulsory courses beforehand.
Doctoral candidates may choose optional courses from the catalog according to their professional preference.
