On November 12, 2019, Associate Professor Tanaka Yoshihiro from Niigata University Law School and Associate Professor Zhou Qian from Kurume University came to visit Shanghai University of Finance and Economics Law School. The meeting was held in the VIP room of Law School. Professor Ge Weijun, Vice Dean of SUFELS, Professor Wang Shuyi and Lecturer Wang Yuhuan attended the meeting.

First of all, Prof. Ge Weijun expressed his warm welcome to A.P. Tanaka Yoshihiro and other visitors. He introduced Shanghai University of Finance and Economics Law School, and hoped to carry out exchange and cooperation with colleagues in Niigata University Law School. A.P. Tanaka underscored that Niigata University with a long history is one of the six post-war universities established in Japan. Currently, his research focuses mainly on nuclear regulation issues, and the project is being carried out within the recently established "East Asia Rim Research Center". The center spans three disciplines, including humanities, law and sociology. A.P. Tanaka is responsible for the law discipline and legal education. Then A.P. Zhou Qian gave a brief introduction to Kurume University. Kurume University is a private university, located in Fukuoka Prefecture, Kyushu. It was established in the 1930s and the School of Law was established in the 1990s which encompasses two disciplines-- law and international politics.

Then, Prof. Wang Shuyi had a lovely communication with A.P. Tanaka surrounding around the faculty of the "East Asia Rim Research Center" and the development of environmental public litigation in Japan. Prof. Wang Shuyi pointed out that research on many hot issues in the field of environmental law in the industrialized countries (such as Japan) are taking the lead, which merits our reference and learning. Since the establishment of environmental public interest litigation system, there have been many deficiencies and limitations. We thus need to learn from Japan, our neighboring country. A.P. Tanaka responded that the research center currently focuses on nuclear law. There are only three legal researchers, all of which are experts in the field of administrative law. In Japan’s environmental public interest litigation system, procuratorates cannot initiate a public interest lawsuit, which A.P. Tanaka thought Japan should learn from China. Lecturer Wang Yuhuan asked whether the “East Asia Rim Research Center” will continue to examine other hot issues in administrative law and environmental law in the future. A.P. Tanaka responded that he hopes that more research topics will be undertaken in the center.

In the summary part, Prof. Ge Weijun and Prof. Wang Shuyi respectively discussed about future opportunities of cooperation and exchange with the "East Asia Rim Research Center". The meeting came to an end in a relaxing and pleasant atmosphere.
